Grown for its deep-green evergreen foliage which is easily shaped into
formal hedges or may be allowed to grow naturally for informal
screening.
'Wintergreen' is often planted by gardeners who want the look of
English or American boxwood, but don't want the wait. 'Wintergreen'
grows much faster than these other boxwoods, thus is also less
expensive.
Plant 3' apart for hedges. Plants will grow together in several
growing seasons. In winter, plants sometimes turn a bit bronze,
greening back up in early spring.
Plants mature at 4-5' tall by 3-4' wide. May easily trim anytime
between March and August to keep at half this size.
Expect 12-18" growth a year.
Plant in sun to quite heavy shade. Plants are quite drought-tolerant
after their first year in the garden.
