'Shoal Creek' Vitex

(Vitex agnus-castus)

Grown for its beautiful blue flowers which cover the tree for 4-6 weeks in early summer. Faded flowers turn into attractive seeds and remain on the tree for another month or more.

Plant next to the deck or patio where a small-growing specimen tree is desired.  See ours planted in the display garden across from Greenhouse "0".

Leaves drop in winter and re-emerge late the following spring.

Vitex matures at only 10-15' tall by 15' wide.  Expect 2' or more growth each year.
Gardeners sometimes confuse vitex with butterfly bush . . . While the flowers look very similar, there are two main differences between the two - Vitex develops large trunks and requires very little pruning.

Butterfly Bush produces flowers from spring to frost if spent flowers are removed periodically.

Plant in sun to very light shade.
